“This is so Japanese, yet this is so not Japanese,” … are the words often exclaimed by visitors stepping into Supermama, a Singapore design store that stands as a catalyst of cultural confluence.
For many, a visit to Supermama unveils an experience that is strangely familiar, yet distinctly unique. Beyond the shapes, colours, and textures of Supermama’s award-winning design collection, echoes an unusual blend of design, materiality, and cultural synthesis.
The homegrown brand will stage Supermama: Designed in Singapore, Made in Japan during Tokyo Creative Salon. Supported by DesignSingapore Council, the exhibition will first be held on 14 March 2024 at Yoyogi 1st Gymnasium before moving to Shibuya Hikarie 8/Court, a designated creative space in the popular shopping mall, from 17 March 2024 to 20 March 2024.
Supermama: Designed in Singapore, Made in Japan will showcase the iconic Singapore Blue Collection, along with Supermama’s latest New Nanyang series created in collaboration with Singaporean creatives and Japanese makers. Singapore designers featured among the collaborators include Hans Tan, John Tay, Tiffany Loy and SerialCo.
