The Good Design Research showcase continues with Offcut Factory by Esli Ee and Edmund Zhang.

Material waste is a prevalent issue and tremendous amounts of offcuts produced by the manufacturing industry are often left abandoned as industrial waste or headed for the landfills. Immerse yourself into insights which shaped the Offcut Factory framework and see how businesses and companies can adopt an alternate solution to waste management.

Is waste beautiful, or not? Come see for yourself and take home an offcut souvenier too!

There will also be a guided tour conducted by Esli Ee, Edmund Zhang and collaborator Huey Teo on 6 Feb 2022, 11.30am. Join them in an exhibition walkthrough as they share their thoughts and experiences behind their work. To find out more, please follow them on Instagram.

About Good Design Research
Launched in March 2020 in the middle of a pandemic year, Good Design Research (GDR) underscores the importance of how design backed by deep research can make a true difference by building deep domain knowledge and solving the challenges faced by societies and cities. This initiative empowers designers and design enterprises in Singapore to find their unique value proposition in designing for impact through research and experimentation, supported by a wide network of knowledge partners.

About Offcut Factory
Offcut Factory is an initiative that reframes material waste by design. They aim to foster a spirit of sustainability by envisioning a framework and community where factories and businesses can find alternative solutions to material waste management.
They see sustainability as a way of living, a habit, and envision that by being able to present successful case studies of how carbon is saved by making small and conscious tweaks, more value can be brought to these organizations to increase its adaptability and create a circular ecosystem.
They also strive to design with the craftsmen of their collaborating factories and companies who carry a deep understanding of their craft. This provides an avenue to pay homage to the craft and expertise behind outcomes that carries the DNA of the local manufacturing scene in this digital age.
