Background

Community museums are invaluable resources for the communities they serve. They offer opportunities for people to learn more about their heritage, share their unique stories and experiences, and connect with others with similar backgrounds or cultures.

My Community’s first community museum, Museum @ My Queenstown, launched in December 2018, was a unique museum developed by residents of Tanglin Halt as well as volunteers from My Community.

After four and a half successful years in operation, Museum @ My Queenstown will move to a new location in the Dawson Estate neighbourhood.

My Community is a recipient of the Good Design Research initiative.

About Good Design Research

Launched in March 2020 in the middle of a pandemic year, Good Design Research (GDR) underscores the importance of how design backed by deep research can make a true difference by building deep domain knowledge and solving the challenges faced by societies and cities. This initiative empowers designers and design enterprises in Singapore to find their unique value proposition in designing for impact through research and experimentation, supported by a wide network of knowledge partners. My Community

My Community is a non-profit organisation which conducts community-based participatory research and heritage assessments; establishes community museums, archives and libraries; organises participatory programmes and guided tours. Since its inception in 2010, it has made its mark in the arts, cultural and heritage sectors. Its work has spurred the growth and development of a common-man approach to history where Singaporeans’ everyday experiences are chronicled and celebrated.
