PLAY! Tomorrow’s Tropical Cities Exhibition
Duration: 2 October – 26 November 2020, 9.00am – 9.00pm daily

Exploring the concept of ‘Play’ in the context of the future tropical metropolis, the “PLAY! Tomorrow’s Tropical Cities” exhibition features innovative ideas of next-generation designers from around the region and beyond. It is a response to the disruptions of emerging digital technology on our cities. As global conditions remain unpredictable, it is even more essential for us to explore the role of ‘play’ in building resilient societies.

PLAY! Tomorrow’s Tropical Cities: Virtual Tour and Dialogue

Embark on an interactive guided tour of the PLAY! Tomorrow’s Tropical Cities’ exhibition and get insights into the creative ideas behind the project! Also hear from the exhibition curators Syafiq Jubri and Nicole Teh, both from the DSG Associates Network, and presenting studios/creatives No-To-Scale (Malaysia), SAMPO (Japan), Jonathan Ng, Yeo Ker Siang, Rebekah Elza Ong Lin and Zen Teh.

Design IdeasWorthDoing Series

Inspired by the late Dr. Milton Tan, Founding Executive Director of Dsg, join us for a series of two panel discussions that explore where ideas come from, how do we generate more and how to build culture and creative cities. Internationally-renowned speakers and local next-gen emerging designers will share their knowledge and perspectives, and exchange ideas and challenges experienced across generations and design disciplines. The exciting speaker line-up includes Eames Demetrios (grandson of design legends Charles and Ray Eames), Mark Wee (Dsg), Ryan Tan (OuterEdit), Tiffany Loy (textile artist), Paul Bennett (IDEO), Richard Hassell (WOHA), Ziqq Rafit (Design Says Hello) and Dave Lim (TEDxSingapore).

Field Trip to Redhill – Archifest 2020 Edition

Through a mix of guided and spontaneous wanderings, uncover the design of everyday life and community-shared spaces in this bizarre, fun and collective way, revealing the uncommon beauty of common things around us.

Field Notes: Bookbinding with Vernacular Objects

Join us on an exclusive workshop to uncover the hidden processes behind ground-up publishing as we bring you through the design and conception of Field Notes – a book produced by Dsg Associates Network (DAN) on their recent (virtual) Field Trip to Redhill earlier this July. Participants will also get to bind their very own copy with vernacular objects like paper clips, rubber bands, spiral coils and bamboo poles to experiment and learn basic bookbinding methods that they can recreate at home.

Making, Measuring, Moving: Designing During Uncertainty

The events of 2020 have hit us all in different ways, whether as organisations or individuals, and this panel explores the role of design in society through three projects which have come to life during this period. Know Your Rights: Intellectual Property Considerations for The Emerging Designer and Freelancer

Human creativity continues to shape the world we live in. Just like how a successful product may be lauded for its new technology, a novel design generates great value for business. As such, different types of creations, ideas or designs are regulated by various intellectual property (IP) laws that impact the way we create. In this webinar, we will share our insight on key IP considerations that emerging designers and freelancers should take note of. We will also touch on important aspects such as design registration, ownership, copyright issues and licensing.
