Join us on an exclusive workshop to uncover the hidden processes behind ground-up publishing as we bring you through the design and conception of Field Notes – a book produced by Dsg Associates Network (DAN) on their recent (virtual) Field Trip to Redhill earlier this July.

Participants will also get to bind their very own copy with vernacular objects like paper clips, rubber bands, spiral coils and bamboo poles to experiment and learn basic bookbinding methods that they can recreate at home.

The workshop is suitable for beginners and all materials will be provided.
Capacity is limited to 5pax each, registration is required.

We will also be giving away limited copies of Field Notes through an online giveaway. Spread the word and share these stories, while stocks last!

About Field Trip to Redhill

Earlier this July, we took 75 participants on a journey to uncover the design, heritage and stories within Redhill through a (virtual) Field Trip on Google Maps. This project started with a benign curiosity around our well-manicured city, with our increasingly homogenous heartlands as a key starting point of inquiry. Through a mix of guided and spontaneous wanderings on Google Maps, we invited participants to (virtually) unveil and re-appropriate these commonplaces through the act of capturing screenshots. Field Notes is therefore a compendium of their work embodied into a physical book—the first of its series—and a testament to how local knowledge can be created, distributed, and fed back into its community to then be reshaped and passed on again.

About the Facilitator

  • Azelia Ng, Book artist, The Other Workroom

Azelia Ng is a (graphic) designer based in Singapore. While working primarily in the field of graphic design, she isn’t defined by it and expresses her expanded vocation as being print in nature and experimental in character. During which, she researches the book as an investigation – making books and artists books – which she sells and distributes through The Other Workroom.

This event is co-presented by DesignSingapore Associates Network (DAN) and DesignSingapore Council, hosted by City Sprouts and supported by the National Design Centre.

This event is part of the National Design Centre’s “Next Gen” programme line-up for October – November 2020.
