This session is an accompaniment to the ongoing exhibition National Vending Gallery: Topic No. 3 Peripheral Vision.
How can one use print as a medium to evoke emotional responses from readers? Can thoughtful observations and design better communicate research topics and inspire readers to experience their environments differently?
Join a panel of authors and publishers as they share more about the intentions behind their work and their creative approach towards design research and documentation. Learn how design can be used as a tool to transform books into vessels for imagination.
The selection of publications discussed in this session aim to help readers see aspects of life that have more often than not been neglected – the plants along walkways, the houses we live in, and even the air we breathe.
About the Speakers:
- Jamie Yeo, Co-Founder, Temporary Press
Jamie Yeo is part of a two-people design studio with graphic designer Gideon Kong (gideon-jamie.com), a space for artistic practice, writing, and research. Situated at the margins of design practice, the studio searches for critical responses to issues in design, culture, and education by utilising alternative modes of production, communication, and distribution. The studio also runs a small-scale publishing press, Temporary Press, which explores initiatives with students, educators, and researchers, and has been involved in multiple short teaching engagements.
- Loh Xiang Yun, Artist & Scientific Botanical Illustrator
Loh Xiang Yun is an artist and scientific botanical illustrator who lives and works in Singapore. Her work interrogates how people relate to nature.
