Details
DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) and Boutiques Singapore are partnering – for the second consecutive year – to showcase Singapore designers at The Gifting Edition 2025.
Curated by Supermama’s Edwin Low – lead curator of EMERGE 2025 during Singapore Design Week – “States of Matter” brings together Nathan Home, Melvin Ong, Sophia Chin and Bewilder with works previously shown at EMERGE.
“States of Matter” invites visitors to meet the designers at the event, to discover the stories behind each piece, and take-home design made in Singapore – thoughtfully crafted, and attractively priced gift-ready objects.

The Designers
Nathan Home’s designs balance sculptural form with everyday function to elevate the familiar. From the PIE Dining Table — conceived as a gathering point and the heart of shared moments — to the playful Drum Stool, President’s Design Award recipient, Nathan Yong’s works invite a sense of elegance and charm into any space.
Melvin Ong’s varied works explore the meeting point of progress and tradition. In Threads of Becoming, a collaborative series with two other local artists, Ong melds 3D printing technologies with the intricate tradition of lacquer threading, a Southeast Asian craft typically reserved for ornate effigies.
Sophia Chin transforms the by-products of Singapore’s waste-to-energy plants into quietly provocative works: She reimagines bottom ash and fly ash — hazardous in their raw states — into vitrified ceramic glazes in a series of elegant, and functional, ceramics.
Bewilder works with mushrooms and reveals their hidden strengths and potential as sustainable design materials. The Weight of Nothingness uses Lingzhi mycelium — fed waste materials to grow — to hold up a glass tabletop, while the Mycelium Table Lamp serves as a fun exploration of organic materials in living spaces.

Boutiques Singapore
Boutiques Singapore began in 2002 as a shopping event aimed at promoting quality, design-led merchandise. The event was established and continues to be directed by Charlotte Cain, who has made Singapore her home since moving here in 1989.
As a fervent advocate of small, Singapore-based businesses, Charlotte wanted to create a platform where designers could showcase collections, engage directly with customers, and gain valuable feedback about their work. Taking centre stage at each event is a curated mix of independent, design-led, and socially responsible brands, that has earned the event tremendous success with many — from Singaporeans to expatriates and international tourists.
Since becoming a highly acclaimed and anticipated twice-yearly event, Boutiques has gone beyond shopping to deepen the community connections it has fostered through the years. This included the introduction of The Circle in The Gifting Edition 2019, a space dedicated to the meaningful exchange of ideas through workshops, talks, and more.
