About the Speakers

  • Crystal Chu, Creative Director, Kingsmen Exhibits

Crystal is involved in major design directions of the studio. She participates in creative conceptualisation, design development and overall management of the design studio. An Honours Degree holder in Museum & Exhibition Design from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, United Kingdom, and a Diploma graduate in Interior Architecture & Design from Temasek Polytechnic, Crystal has acquired her experiences, through her academic pursuit and working stints, specialised knowledge as well as work experiences from more than 21 years in the design industry. Her diverse portfolio includes, Multiple Attractions for Shangri-La Group, Galleries & Museums for National Heritage Board, Theme Parks for Universal Studios and Experience Centre for Changi Airport Group, among others.

Apart from being an outstanding academic performer with scholarships and design awards to her name, Crystal is appointed as a member of the Design Education Advisory Committee by the Ministry of Trade & Industry, and also sits as a member of the Design and Media Academic Advisory Committee at the Institute of Technical Education, contributing industry insights to Singapore’s Design Education.

  • Dale Nute, Head of UX/UI, TMRW Digital Bank, UOB

Dale Nute is a digital designer and leader, with an experience that spans across Television, News, Banking and F&B. He has worked with global brands such as Sky, Pepsi, The Times & Sunday Times, Graze, Virgin Media as well as the UK Government, and most recently, TMRW digital bank powered by UOB.

  • Jason Goh, Design Director, Experience Design Group, Dell Technologies

Jason serves as the Design Director leading Dell Experience Design Group in Singapore crafting the portfolio of Dell’s Software & Peripherals business. He joined Dell in August 2016. In his current role, he is responsible for spearheading innovative design and experience across all monitors and peripherals under Dell and Alienware brand.

Jason is a homegrown Singaporean designer. He graduated with an Honours Degree in Design from the University of Glasgow in Scotland in 2001. Upon graduation, Jason began his exciting design career as an Industrial Designer in Panasonic in 2002. He has since worked in several multi-national companies including Siemens VDO, Creative Technology and Hewlett-Packard. His work experience has allowed him to work on a wide variety of design projects such as audio/video hi-fi systems, LCD TVs, car audio, gaming machines, multimedia speakers, mobile phones and business printers.

Jason is a creative innovator with a passion in design and more than 19 years of expertise in creating impactful award-winning products across multiple industry verticals.

  • Yong Jieyu, Principal Designer and Founder, STUCK

Yong Jieyu is one of the founding directors of STUCK – an award winning design consultancy with works spanning research, product, interaction and experience design. His expertise has led to the creation of multiple successful and meaningful designs for government organisations, multinational corporations and startups.

His interest in design education and methods has seen him invited for talks, guest crits, and adjunct teaching at both local and overseas universities and polytechnics. Together with Edwin Low, Jieyu has co-written the Design Thinking Curriculum in Singapore Polytechnic and has been a part-time lecturer at the Division of Industrial Design, National University of Singapore since 2010.

About the Moderator

  • Ryan Lim, Founding Partner, QED Consulting

Ryan is the Principal Consultant and Founding Partner of QED Consulting. He has been a digital marketer for more than 19 years and is a pioneer in social media marketing. With his wealth of experience in digital marketing and communications, Ryan is a senior management strategist and advisor to some of the world’s leading businesses and brands.

A thought leader, Ryan is constantly sought after by leading press and marketing publications to share his industry-shaping insights and opinions. He is also a part-time Masters programme lecturer at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communications & Information, and a prolific speaker delivering keynotes at leading digital marketing and communications conferences.

In October 2016, Ryan was appointed as a Member of the Board of Directors to the Infocomm Media Development Authority, to advise on national development issues pertaining to digital communications. In August 2018, he was conferred the SkillsFuture Fellowship, Singapore’s highest skills award presented by the President of the Republic of Singapore. Ryan has also been recently appointed to sit on the Singapore Institute of Technology’s Industry Advisory Committee for Digital Communications and Integrated Media.

About the Collaboration
In conjunction with the National Design Centre’s ‘Design Learning’ programme line-up for February 2021, and the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI)’s quarterly thematic event on ‘Design and Innovation’, the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) and LLI have come together to profile the design sector – how design plays an increasingly important role in education, helping businesses to innovate, as well as the exciting career and skills training opportunities available. Through the series of activities lined up, Dsg and LLI hope to raise awareness and interest in design, encourage a spirit of continuous learning, and help our students and jobseekers get a head start in exploring a career in design.

This event is part of the National Design Centre’s “Design Learning” programme line-up for February 2021.
