A heating planet is the hot body no one ever wanted. While our climate has changed, the way we dress has not. HOT BODIES is an investigation into the innovative ways apparel and wearables can help us radically rethink how we dress, feel, and be “hot” in the 21st century.

In Singapore, we are long-time “global experts” in heat and humidity. We’ve become accustomed to dealing with heat in one way: we stay indoors. But as heat becomes increasingly unavoidable, perhaps it’s time to start treating the sun as our friend, and ask a different question instead:

Not “How do we get out of the heat?” but “What can we get out of the heat?”

Organised by ANAK and supported by the DesignSingapore Council, the showcase comprises an Exhibition, Talks, a Workshop, an Emporium, and Bar.

EXHIBITION: Targeting heat, humidity, and UV radiation, HOT BODIES gathers 10 international creatives to respond to a global problem. Ranging from ready-to-wear and accessible sun accessories, to conceptual fashion and speculative designs, explore the possibilities of designing for heat in the near and far future.

TALKS: Step a little deeper into conversation, gather fresh perspectives on not just surviving the heat, but actually getting along with it. The talks convene experts from Vogue, TCM (traditional chinese medicine), fashion and physiology, and question the way we should dress, uncover tropical innovations, bust age-old sun myths, and ask what it really means to have a ‘heaty’ body.

WORKSHOP: Roll up your sleeves and get hands-on with heat. Taste, test, and tinker with everything from TCM-approved herbal mocktails, to sunblock face-paint sessions for kids, electro-lymphatic drainage therapy, and UV-bio-ink textile printing. Uncover new habits and approaches to living well with the sun.

EMPORIUM: Welcome to the Sun Care Emporium – your friendly neighbourhood dispensary devoted to helping you live in harmony with the sun. You’ll find five areas of care, guiding you towards heat prevention, protection and recovery. Peruse the collection of ointments, wearables, devices, and take-home habits. Whatever your sun-related query, step inside and allow the friendly “sun specialists” to prescribe your perfect dose of sunshine. Explore take-home habits, behaviours, and other modifications that can be applied today.

THE BAR: Take a well-earned pit stop at our ultimate hydration hangout. Whether you’ve just finished a run, the kids need a shady break, or a pre-dinner pick-me-up, we’ve got you covered. Every item on the menu starts with a base of electrolytes – from balanced mocktails, cooling cocktails and refreshing sorbets – all designed for recovery and replenishment under the sun.
