In a world where individuality is fiercely celebrated, where can we find spaces that help champion equity, diversity, and inclusion? How can we facilitate the conditions for society to come together for good? The answer might be found in inclusive design. The concept of inclusive design aims to remove barriers that create separation. It enables everyone to participate equally, confidently, and collaboratively in everyday activities. Through this tour, Monster Day Tours hope to introduce 3 design concepts that helped create environments where participants can truly feel welcomed and valued, regardless of age, authority, or ability.
Enabling Village: Located in Redhill, the Enabling Village, designed by WOHA Architects, is a demonstration of heartland rejuvenation and community building. The property was repurposed to become an inclusive space that connects people with disabilities and the wider society. Activating the forgotten spaces maximises the potential for a socially successful environment.
The Pinnacle@Duxton: High-density living frequently results in compact units that are devoid of “breathing space” in the attempt to maximise land use. The design of The Pinnacle@Duxton was refreshing as it catered for the expected density while making the entire development feel spacious. Views, connectivity, air and light flow were all considered, together with an intentional lush environmental deck that contributes to the green lung for the city. The Pinnacle@Duxton redefines what public housing can be in a densely populated city for a sustainable future.
Bynd Artisan: At the heart of Bynd Artisan are their home-grown master craftsmen, who were schooled in the traditional ways of book-binding and leather crafting. The brand design creates a meaningful narrative that preserves Bynd Artisan’s rich heritage and craft, yet opens an avenue for collaborative process between the craftsmen and its customers. This results in a new level of accessibility to one of Singapore’s well-loved homegrown brands.
