Details

Human creativity continues to shape the world we live in.

Just like how a successful product may be lauded for its new technology, a novel design generates great value for business. As such, different types of creations, ideas or designs are regulated by various intellectual property (IP) laws that impact the way we create.

In this webinar, we will share our insight on key IP considerations that emerging designers and freelancers should take note of. We will also touch on important aspects such as design registration, ownership, copyright issues and licensing.

Join us and find out more about how you can secure a complimentary one-to-one preliminary consultation with Ella Cheong LLC’s team of professionals today!

Programme:

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Presentation by Marcus Chan, Legal Associate, Ella Cheong LLC
  • Q&A Session
  • Sharing on Shared Services for Design Firms by DesignSingapore Council

About The Speaker:

  • Marcus Chan, Legal Associate, Ella Cheong LLC

Marcus graduated from the University of Bristol in 2017 with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), where he served as Sports Director of the Malaysian and Singaporean Students’ Association. After completing his training at Ella Cheong, he was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2020.

Marcus assists in a variety of commercial and contentious work in relation to intellectual property (IP) law. He handles the trade mark portfolios of both local and international clients by advising them on IP filing strategy, as well as prosecution, management and enforcement of their IP. He has assisted in disputes relating to trade mark, copyright and passing off before the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore and the Courts.

He is familiar with domain name disputes, having assisted with adjudication proceedings administered by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). He also advises clients on issues falling under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and Singapore Dispute Resolution Policy (SDRP).

Marcus has experience in other legal areas as well, having assisted in franchising, distributorship, data protection and software licensing matters.

This event is presented by the DesignSingapore Council in partnership with Ella Cheong LLC, and supported by the National Design Centre.

This event is part of the National Design Centre’s “Next Gen” programme line-up for October – November 2020.
