At the inaugural Design Education Summit, Pascal Soboll, Managing Director and Founder of Daylight Design in Germany shares why we need design today and that it needs to be taught at a young age.
Pascal highlighted that the most important quality that CEOs seek nowadays is creativity. He explained that creativity is not a talent – it is a mindset and is as important as literacy. Creativity, however, was not the same as design. What design offers, is to give creativity “its place”, as design has a tool box of methods and processes that encourages divergent thinking. Pascal shared the work done with schools on infusing design thinking into the curriculum. He stressed that not everyone should strive to be a designer, but everyone should strive to be involved in design.
The Design Education Summit was presented by DesignSingapore Council and organised in partnership with the SUTD-MIT International Design Centre (IDC) based at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).
