Ms Jureeporn Thaidumrong is one of Asia’s most respected figures in advertising. She began her career as in-house copywriter at a department store, and progressed to work in the Bangkok office of a string of global advertising agencies, during which time she received Thailand’s first Cannes Gold Lion and its first D&AD Yellow Pencil. Today, she is creative chairwoman of nudeJEH, a Bangkok-based company that focuses on strategic branding and communications. Ms Thaidumrong will weigh in on the President’s Design Award 2014 as juror. In advance of her visit, DesignSingapore asked her 10 questions. Here, her responses:
I am proudest of Thai design for the temples.
Young Thai design talents are all followers. I haven’t seen anything that is outstanding or original in recent years.
The must-go places in Bangkok where design is a significant feature are the temples Wat Arun and Wat Pho; and the Grand Palace.
People, colleagues and clients have expectations and I strive to exceed their expectations.
A word or phrase I use frequently is [Thai translation]: Nothing we cannot do, except when we don’t want to do it.
My favourite search engine is Google.
An artistic pursuit I have not tried but would be keen to do is to play the piano.
A recent gift I purchased for my newborn nephew was a 15-gram gold bullion.
When I last looked into the mirror, I thought: “Are the cats okay?”
The most important lesson in life is to have awareness.
