What is the SkillsFuture Study Award (SFSA) for Design about?

Design is not just a job ─ it’s a way of thinking

– Minister Lawrence Wong

The SkillsFuture Study Awards (SFSA) encourage Singaporeans to develop and deepen specialist skills needed by future economic growth sectors or in areas of demand. It also supports Singaporeans who already have deep specialist skills to develop other competencies.

Who is the SFSA for Design for?

The SFSA for Design, through a monetary award, encourages early- to mid-career Singaporeans to deepen both technical craft skills as well as broaden skillsets in adjacent domains such as business, innovation and technology to remain relevant and value-add to design and/or non-design sectors. Applicants are required to have at least three years of working experience.

Aligning to the Design 2025 Masterplan, Singapore needs a design-empowered workforce consisting designers with transdisciplinary skillsets and non-designers who possess design sensibilities to help us thrive in the future economy. Singaporeans with the relevant skills stand to benefit from quality jobs created by our economy. Jobs are also evolving with new functions and existing ones requiring updated skillsets.

  • If you are a Designer
    • You can seize the opportunity to deepen your skillsets or pick up new skills in complementary fields like business, technology and innovation to stay relevant. These skillsets are articulated in the Skills Framework for Design which can be found here.
  • If you are a non-Designer
    • You can acquire and apply design thinking/creative and inventive approaches at work and be a highly sought-after talent in the evolving economic landscape.

How will I benefit?

Each successful award recipient will receive a monetary award of $5,000, on top of existing Government course fee subsidies. No bond is required.
