Design Superposition
Date/Time: 22 Jan 2022 – 10 Apr 2022, 9am – 9pm
Venue: Atrium, Level 1

In quantum physics, superposition refers to the combination of all possible states in a system. In design culture and its various disciplines and industries, a similar phenomenon is emerging – design is nothing, yet everything. But what is the value of design activities? Is design useful for society, or is it just a buzzword for industries and design aficionados? In Design Superposition, the DesignSingapore Associates Network (DAN) – formed by DesignSingapore Scholarship recipients in 2017 – explores its multi-faceted nature with introspection and self-examination. Ten participants investigate their own unique practices to evoke experiences that ponder the value of design for themselves and society.

Date/Time: 15 Jan – 10 Feb 2022, 9am – 9pm
Venue: Pop-up Gallery, Level 1 and online

The Good Design Research showcase turns a new page as Offcut Factory sets up shop. Material waste is a prevalent issue, as stone and ceramic offcuts produced during the manufacturing process are often discarded and headed for the landfills. Offcut Factory envisions a circular industry, where factories and businesses can find alternative solutions to material waste management. Come see the transformation for yourself, and take home a small offcut souvenir too.

Talks & Workshops

Fashionably Green
Date/Time: 6 Jan 2022, 5pm
Venue: Online

What if clothes can grow to fit our body shapes? What if the fabric that we don can be woven from plastic bottles and agricultural by-products? What if garments and accessories can be made onsite in retail stores, only when we want them? Moderated by creative director and fashion veteran Daniel Boey, local fashion labels GINLEE Studio and NOST come together with British kidswear brand Petit Pli to discuss why sustainability matters, how fashion designers can influence consumers to purchase consciously, and what they’ve been doing to play their part in transforming the fashion industry into a more sustainable one through design.
