Besides a fantastic menu, some food and beverage (F&B) outlets in Singapore stand apart from their competitors by turning to well-appointed spaces to enhance customers’ dining experience.
Hotelier and restaurateur Loh Lik Peng is a firm believer in the merits of good design. He believes design is a critical factor that differentiates the best and most passionate players from the wannabes. If an entrepreneur is truly passionate about his business, he would invest in the design of the establishment.
Some F&B outlets have engaged award-winning design agencies such as Asylum and Hjgher to conceptualise the restaurant’s interior design.
Kith Bistro, which cost $250,000 to do up, opened in Park Mall, Singapore in June. The design has garnered interest and mentions in international publications such as Wallpaper* and The New York Times.
Justin Long, creative director at Hjgher, the design agency for Kith Bistro and Kith Café, said that younger F&B owners are more receptive to new ideas, and are willing to take greater risks in adopting original design.
Asylum and Hjgher were both past recipients of the President’s Design Award. The award is conferred by the President of Singapore and jointly administered by the DesignSingapore Council and Urban Redevelopment Authority. The award recognises excellence across all design disciplines.
