DesignSingapore scholar Ms Azelia Ng Wei Zhen, 19, will pursue a BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design at the London College of Communication, London, United Kingdom.
What was the project you were proudest to share with the selection panel of the DesignSingapore Scholarship?
During a semester break from the School of Design, Temasek Polytechnic, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Sentosa to do a sculpture for Easter Day (see below). The egg sculpture was 1m high and coated with sand from the Sentosa beach. It was my first sculpture. The experience taught me to be confident in taking up any challenges.
When your contemporaries at London College of Communication ask you, what would you say is representative of Singaporean design?
Changi Airport and the Housing Board flats – both depict the essence of Singaporean design and our way of life.
How do you intend to contribute to Singaporean design?
I hope to introduce works that are unexpected, thought-provoking and which tell stories. I hope to be active in Singapore’s design sector.
